Technology: How our Thermal System Works
1) Fluid enters the battery and is distributed throughout the pack by integrated guiding features in the bottom
2) A fluid boiling process is initiated on the surface of the cells through a Kautex-owned technology. This leads to the formation of vapor and heat removal from the cells
3) The vapor moves out of the housing and is processed in the thermal system of the car until re-condensation
4) For battery heating, the cycle can be reversed
Benefits
-Simplicity: Acting as a heat exchanger for both battery cooling and heating, our plastic battery housing acts as a multi-functional component for both thermal and housing capabilities
-Temperature consistency: Evaporation leads to an unchanging temperature inside the pack and direct immersion cools all cell surfaces evening out cell-internal temperature differences
-Increased overall cooling capacity: Heat removal is augmented by phase change resulting in up to 90% fluid flow reduction compared to 1-phase systems
-Thermal system integration: Battery waste heat can be supplied at elevated temperature which increases overall AC capacity by up to 30%
