Another Little Greeting from the Christmas Market: Potato Pancakes with Applesauce
Potato pancakes are one of the traditional favorite dishes that must not be missing at any Christmas market. Fresh from the pan, wonderfully crispy, and served with a portion of applesauce, they are a treat that brings festive coziness.
With simple ingredients like potatoes, onions, and a bit of patience while frying, you can bring the taste of the Christmas market directly into your home. Perfect for cold winter days and cozy hours with family and friends.
Ingredients
For the applesauce:
600 g apples, peeled and diced
1 tsp cinnamon
50 g water
For the potato pancakes:
200 g onions, grated
1 kg potatoes, peeled and grated
1 egg
1 tsp cornstarch
0.5 tsp pepper
1 tsp salt
250 ml cooking oil for frying
Preparation
For the applesauce, sauté apple cubes with cinnamon in a small pot. Add water, cover, and let it simmer gently until the apple pieces are soft.
For the potato pancakes, finely grate the onion and potato. Place the mixture in a sieve, press out excess liquid, and let it drain. Then mix with egg, cornstarch, salt, and pepper to form a dough.
Heat oil in a pan. Spoon the dough into the pan in portions, lightly press them flat, and fry the pancakes on both sides for 4-6 minutes each, until golden brown and crispy over medium heat. Then drain them on paper towels.
Serve the warm potato pancakes with fresh, homemade applesauce and enjoy!
